Cirrus Aircraft has completed a multimillion-dollar expansion of its manufacturing facility in Grand Forks, North Dakota, adding more than 30,000 square feet of production space as demand for its aircraft continues to grow.

The investment expands the company’s capacity for composite aircraft component manufacturing and is designed to support both current and forecast production rates across its aircraft portfolio.

The Grand Forks operation supports production for Cirrus’ SR Series high-performance piston aircraft and the SF50 Vision Jet, making the site an important part of the company’s U.S. manufacturing network.

Expansion Improves Composite Parts Flow

A central objective of the project is improving how composite components move through the manufacturing facility.

The additional space enables Cirrus to streamline production flow while providing greater flexibility as manufacturing requirements change.

“This expansion reflects our continued investment in our people, our products, and the Grand Forks community,” Cirrus CEO Zean Nielsen said.

According to Nielsen, the combination of more than 30,000 square feet of additional space and new jobs positions the company for continued growth.

Composites Support Cirrus Aircraft Production

Composite materials have an established role across Cirrus’ aircraft portfolio.

The Grand Forks expansion comes as the manufacturer continues to develop both its piston-aircraft and personal-jet businesses, increasing the importance of sufficient composite manufacturing capacity to support aircraft production.

The facility supplies Cirrus programs including the SR Series and the composites-intensive Vision Jet, which uses composite construction extensively across its airframe.

Rather than establishing a separate operation, Cirrus is expanding an existing manufacturing base and reorganizing capacity around increasing production requirements.

Grand Forks forms part of a wider U.S. footprint that includes Cirrus operations in Duluth, Dallas, Phoenix, Orlando, Knoxville and Benton Harbor.

Local partners also contributed to the Grand Forks expansion, supporting the project as part of broader efforts to strengthen advanced manufacturing and employment in the region.
