Continuous Composites FibreSeek patent lawsuit

Continuous Composites Inc. (CCI) has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against companies associated with FibreSeek and Anisoprint, escalating a dispute over intellectual property covering continuous fiber additive manufacturing.

The complaint was filed on August 7, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. CCI alleges infringement of 10 U.S. patents related to methods and equipment for continuous composite 3D printing.

The defendants named in the complaint are Anisoprint S.A.R.L., Anisoprint 3D Printing Technology (Suzhou) Limited and Shenzhen Fibreseek Technology Co., Ltd.

At the center of the dispute is technology that combines continuous fiber reinforcement with a matrix material during additive manufacturing.

FibreSeeker 3 Named in the Complaint

According to CCI, FibreSeek products including the recently introduced FibreSeeker 3 use a continuous fiber co-extrusion approach that falls within the scope of its patented technology.

The allegations have not been decided by the court.

This distinction is important because infringement depends on whether an accused product satisfies the requirements of specific patent claims. The validity and interpretation of those claims may also become central issues as the litigation proceeds.

All 10 asserted patents share the title “Method and apparatus for continuous composite three-dimensional printing” and name CCI co-founder Kenneth Lyle Tyler as the inventor.

The patent family traces priority through a U.S. application filed in August 2013, which claimed priority to a provisional application filed in August 2012.

Although the patents share substantial technical disclosure, they contain different claim sets covering various aspects of continuous composite additive manufacturing.

CCI Says Licensing Discussions Preceded Lawsuit

CCI says the lawsuit follows several years of discussions with FibreSeek over a potential license.

According to the complaint, CCI approached FibreSeek about licensing in 2023 and provided proposed terms in June 2024. Discussions reportedly continued through 2024 and 2025 without an agreement.

CCI CEO Steve Starner said the case involves multiple patents rather than a dispute over a single feature.

The company is seeking monetary relief as well as injunctive relief against activities ultimately found by the court to infringe its patents.

As of August 18, 2026, the defendants had not filed a substantive response to the allegations.

Earlier Markforged Case Provides Background

The dispute follows CCI’s previous patent litigation involving composite 3D printing company Markforged.

Several patents from the same broader patent family were challenged during that case.

At an April 2024 trial, a jury considered two claims from U.S. Patent No. 11,173,660. It found one claim invalid and not infringed, while finding another claim infringed and awarding CCI $17.34 million.

The companies subsequently reached a settlement and patent-license agreement involving payments totaling $25 million, along with cross-licenses, releases and covenants not to sue. Neither party admitted liability or wrongdoing under the settlement.

That outcome, however, does not determine the FibreSeek case.

The current litigation will depend on the individual patent claims asserted against the defendants, how those claims are interpreted and how the accused products operate.

Patent Dispute Highlights Growing Continuous Fiber AM Market

Continuous fiber additive manufacturing seeks to combine the geometric flexibility of 3D printing with continuous reinforcement materials capable of improving the mechanical performance of printed components.

As commercial systems move beyond research environments, intellectual property covering fiber deposition, impregnation, material delivery and processing architecture is becoming increasingly relevant.

CCI says it holds more than 120 allowed U.S. patents and more than 40 international patents.

The Delaware lawsuit could therefore become an important test of how parts of CCI’s continuous fiber additive manufacturing portfolio apply to competing commercial extrusion platforms.

For now, the case remains at an early stage. CCI’s infringement claims are allegations, and the court has not determined whether the defendants infringed any of the asserted patents.
