Researchers have developed a high-performance polyurea composite coating designed to protect outdoor metal equipment from corrosion, ultraviolet radiation and chemical attack.

The coating incorporates silica nanoparticles functionalised with fluorocarbon chains and a light stabiliser, improving the long-term durability of polyurea systems in harsh outdoor environments.

After UV exposure followed by 18 days in 5 wt% NaCl solution, the coating maintained an impedance value of:

  • 1.11 × 10⁹ Ω·cm²

No visible rust or blistering was observed after:

  • 78 days of salt-spray testing
  • 82 days of immersion in 5 wt% NaCl, 5 wt% NaOH and 5 wt% H₂SO₄
